1st Annual Southwest Louisiana All Veterans' Reunion To Be Held

1st Annual SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA ALL VETERANS' REUNION
The American Legion Dr. O.S.Holiday Memorial Post 27, DeRidder, LA has teamed  with the City of DeRidder, VFW Post 3616, the Louisiana Veterans Coalition, the Tourist Commission, the DeRidder Chamber of Commerce, and the War Memorial Civic Center (Home of the 1st USO in the Nation) to sponsor the 1st Annual Southwest Louisiana All Veterans Reunion.

The purpose of this event is for the City of DeRidder to honor the men and women who have elected to defend our country and have worked tirelessly as warriors and peacekeepers.  Mr. Walter Smith, Chairman of the Planning Committee stated: "Enough cannot be said or done for the American soldiers that have served our country in the cause for freedom in every corner of the world.  This is our way of bringing them together, honoring them, and showing them that their sacrifices have not been forgotten."

The date has been scheduled for next summer, May 21st and 22nd, 2011.  On the drawing board for this two day event will be a "Meet & Greet" for all veterans of all services following by a parade with WWII veterans being the honorees. Downtown Washington Street will have entertainment, vendors, food, and a car show. The War Memorial Civic Center will offer information and a cool place to rest.  Saturday afternoon the Fairgrounds will have military static displays and equipment followed by a dance and fireworks display.  There will be a camping area available.  Sunday morning, focus will be on the dedication of the new Veterans Park, followed by an outdoor worship service.
